These are four of a series of eight paintings. The abstract paintings from this series are developed
intuitively, with no notion of how the final image should be. I paint immediately
after waking up, remembering a dream. I am not interested in
translating the dream into form but in capturing the liminal feeling between
wakefulness and dreamland, the lingering memory of a dream. This process has
resulted in the otherworldly abstract forms of the paintings.
The tension between consciousness and the unconscious
is also explored through the process of alternating
between intention and impulse. I paint or paste something carefully, with intent, then remove it impulsively by
covering it or scraping it off.
